Lija is the smallest in feel of the Three Villages — Attard, Balzan and Lija — and one of the most charming. Its streets of old townhouses, walled gardens and villas make it a favourite of buyers who want character in the centre of the island.

The village

At the edge of the old core stands the Lija Belvedere, a tower that once belonged to the gardens of a private villa. The 18th-century Villa Francia is an official residence of the Prime Minister of Malta. Each year on 6 August the village celebrates the feast of the Transfiguration with one of Malta’s most famous fireworks displays.
