Pembroke lies on the north-east coast just beyond St Julian’s and Swieqi. It grew around the Pembroke Army Garrison, a spread of British barracks — St George’s, St Patrick’s and St Andrew’s among them — whose buildings now house homes, colleges and schools.
Schools and heritage
Fort Pembroke, built in the 1870s, is home to Verdala International School, which moved there in 1987. The area is crossed by a walking and cycling heritage trail among the old military structures, and the open coastline stretches north towards Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.
