Residence
Sponsor resident in Malta for at least two years
Must show
Stable income, adequate accommodation, health insurance
Alternative
Identità’s Family Members Policy

Non-EU nationals living in Malta can apply to bring close family members to join them.

Family reunification (S.L. 217.06)

Identità’s guidance sets out the main conditions for the sponsor:

  • At least two years’ residence in Malta.
  • Stable and regular income sufficient for the family.
  • Adequate accommodation.
  • Comprehensive health insurance for the family members.

Family Members Policy

For those who do not qualify under the regulations, Identità operates a Family Members Policy on an ex-gratia basis, with its own conditions — including a shorter residence requirement in some cases.

Practical steps

  1. Check which route applies to you.
  2. Gather documents: marriage and birth certificates (legalised or apostilled), proof of income, lease or deed, insurance.
  3. Apply to Identità and allow time for processing.

Housing

A family-sized home is part of the requirement — see best areas for families.
